Abstract

This project describes the results of an Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE) and implementation assessment conducted on Zion National Park's Environmental Management System (EMS). The EPE results show that half of Zion's current environmental activities do not have established indicators to measure environmental performance. Alignment of regulations and objectives exists, while lack of strong targets and indicators compromises environmental performance measurement and jeopardizes the opportunity to meet objectives. The author recommends a set of performance indicators that will enhance the effectiveness of Zion's EMS, including implementation of management and operational performance indicators, and environmental condition indicators for comprehensive measurement of environmental performance.
