Abstract

This capstone project is about discrimination against women and girls in sports and the subsequent Title IX legislation that was passed in 1972 to provide equal opportunity to girls in sports at federally funded institutions. This capstone shows the subsequent effects this legislation had on girls, their opportunities, and their self images. The reflective essay, the creative portion of this capstone project, shows three generations of female athletes' sports experiences in the author's family, the differences in opportunities that were available to each of them, and the effects these differences had on their self esteem.
