Abstract

This dissertation, Making Faces, is a book of prose poems investigating the work of portrait composition as it might be achieved through poetry. The prose poems in Making Faces explore how written expressions of people might be built poetically through—listing, paradox, rhythmic and figural repetition, presence and likeness, details, and brevity. The prose poems in Making Faces explore how written expressions of people might be built poetically through an examination of ideas and feelings.
