Abstract
Transgender and gender expansive (TGE) individuals attempt suicide at almost nine times the rates of their cisgender counterparts. Yet, existing research provides minimal information related to TGE suicide attempt survivors’ lived experiences. This study aimed to address gaps in the literature by examining the meaning-making processes for TGE suicide attempt survivors with attunement to their intersectional identities. The research questions of this study were as follows: How do TGE suicide attempt survivors create meaning in suicide attempt survivorship? How do TGE individuals’ intersecting identities and experiences with oppression impact their meaning making processes in survivorship? What are the post traumatic impacts of surviving suicide attempt(s) for TGE individuals? How does suicide stigma impact TGE suicide attempt survivors? Participant meaning-making processes were explored through abductive reflexive thematic analysis.
