Abstract

The Royalty of Oakwood County is a work of fiction composed of one hundred and twenty three, one-to-two page chapters of prose vignettes, fictional interviews, and fictional television episode dialogue transcriptions. The narrative focus is on the complicated relationships of a late teenage, female protagonist named Mercy Forrester. Through the layered construction of the narrative framework, Mercy navigates her feelings regarding her dying father, Ezra Forrester, better known as drag queen and reality television star Lady Ezra Foxxx, her home of Oakwood County, and notions of love, celebrity, fame, death, and dying.
