Abstract
Abstract \ Storytelling is one of the earliest forms of communication, and the tools with which stories are told have evolved over time. One of the fundamental roles storytelling plays is in the human sensemaking process, or the way people give meaning to life. With supporting primary and secondary research, this Capstone explores how people use storytelling as a sensemaking tool on Facebook. Primary research captures original data from Facebook messages, in the form of Wall postings, and extracts common themes, which are compared against secondary research on storytelling, personal narratives, identity, sensemaking, and Facebook. This Capstone project establishes three major findings supporting that people use storytelling on Facebook as a sensemaking tool.
