Abstract
Employee engagement is a hot organizational topic, but the existing research has been largely conducted in mid- to large-sized companies. There are little data available on what employee engagement means for small teams and businesses. There is a breadth of information available that includes a common definition of employee engagement; data about what drives employee engagement; and the business outcomes expected from improving levels of engagement at work. What is not clear is whether or not these same meanings, drivers, and outcomes apply to small teams. The focus of this research project was to get an in-depth view of employee engagement from a small team perspective, and identify what is unique about small teams when considering an employee engagement initiative.
