Abstract

This project reviews and analyzes the problems of urban sprawl and describes the adverse effects associated with this type of development. This project also examines various remedies and better means of land use and identifies the Smart Growth principles as the most effective way of combating and correcting urban sprawl. This project more closely identifies urban sprawl that is occurring along the Wasatch Front, the associated negative environmental impacts and explains recent and current planning efforts that have been used by various government and development entities. This paper provides suggestions and recommendations for additional applications of smart growth and other techniques to further offset and correct the adverse effects of urban sprawl and may be used by planners and developers of the Wasatch Front.
