Abstract

Poor education leads to poor decision-making abilities. St. Maarten has serious environmental problems, which may be caused by the public's lack of proper awareness of environmental issues. This capstone assesses the level of environmental education at St. Maarten's high schools and provides an environmental stewardship curriculum to address the shortcomings in environmental education. In general, the amount of environmental education and the students' awareness of environmental issues varies widely from school to school. The study reveals a strong correlation between amount of education, students' awareness, and participation in environmental activities. Students who have better environmental education are more likely to show greater awareness of and participation in environmental projects.
