Abstract

This is a narrative guidebook for the Arkansas River of Colorado. It is designed to acquaint readers with the Arkansas River's rapids and the culture of those who consistently float it commercially and privately. Each story is prefaced by an informational guide for those wanting to canoe, raft or kayak the story's setting. The story that follows showcases a cultural aspect of those who consistently float the Arkansas River. It is recommended the stories be read after the preface, but the reader need not read the stories in order. Some schematic knowledge of rivers is necessary to understand the prefaces; however, no background knowledge is required for reading the short stories.
