Abstract
This paper explores a terribly painful period in my journalistic career that involved a deep investigation into the world of socially skilled child molesters and child pornography. The memoir explores the circumstances and effects on my psyche and body as the investigation lasted for several months. In research of trauma journalism I discovered that the reaction was one shared by many journalists, in many different circumstances. The mental health aspect is the binding element. Acknowledgement of journalists at risk when covering traumatic events by psychologists and researchers has created a new movement of awareness and even groups that advocate for the protection of journalists when covering the unimaginable.
