Abstract

Transmigration is a narrative poetic sequence focusing on the idea of reincarnation. The poems explore ten lives of a character who is able to remember each previous life, culminating in the transfer of his soul to the Internet. The sequence combines poetry with traditional narrative elements such as character exposition and dramatic structure. The analysis essay examines reincarnation as a subject in science fiction literature using the teachings of philosophy. Three themes in science fiction reincarnation literature are explored, using two short stories and one science fiction novel as examples. The analysis essay concludes that an exploration of science fiction shows that writers of this genre are foregrounding philosophical issues of identity, memory, and morality.
