Abstract
This essay is modeled on Jonathon Swift's A Modest Proposal and traces its structure and style to argue that the use of the seal as a mechanism for establishing consideration should be returned to contract doctrine. It is a somewhat tongue-in-check treatment of the issue, but done with serious intent. Esteemed contract scholars spill much ink on the topic of the enforceability of donative promises. I suggest that the return of the seal would "free our great thinkers to turn their brilliance to topics of more pressing interest."
