Abstract
In the aftermath of a gallon of gas rising from an inflation-adjusted price of $3.04 in 1981, to $3.98 in 2008 (far below the price increases of other staples such as bread and milk), political demagogues have been seeking to exploit consumer angst by searching for a scapegoat.
