A brief report on this year's Lake Constance Conference series for researchers specializing in guitar, which took place on May 1–4, 2025.
8th Lake Constance Guitar Research Conference
Kreuzlingen University of Teacher Education, Switzerland
After a six-year hiatus, the Lake Constance Conference series for researchers specializing in guitar was revived with the conference from May 1-4. The advance response already demonstrated how meaningful and desirable this event has become, and around forty participants from Europe, Australia, and America responded to the announcement, either to give lectures or to attend as listeners.
The previous organizing duo was joined by Daniel Marx, who, as a doctoral student at the University of Surrey, brought both a professional addition and a welcome personal rejuvenation. And because of Marx's teaching activities at the Swiss Thurgau University of Teacher Education in Kreuzlingen and the resulting proximity to the university's student body, it was possible to hold the lectures on the premises of the university.
This year's meeting was particularly broad in scope, including as it did several pedagogical topics. Other presentations focused on aspects of organology, the repertoire and performance-specific instrumentation, biographies of lesser-known exponents of our instrument, individual performance practice, notational specifics, institutions and resources, compositional aspects, ensemble work, and individual works.
In addition to returning participants, the group contained numerous newcomers, who fostered many new contacts and connections.
The event was supported by EGTA Germany, demonstrating that the need for this format is recognized and appreciated.
A continuation of this series will take place in spring 2027.
