Abstract
This Capstone examines the positive benefits of forgiveness and how it not only changes lives, but communities. Many factors determine whether a victim offers forgiveness or an offender apologizes. Often people associate the idea of forgiveness with their religious tradition, linking forgiveness to the concept of sinful behavior. Research shows a direct tie between good health and forgiveness through an apology. Yet, many people do not think of solving a relationship problem by apologizing. The nature of the event between parties, relationships, and how an apology is delivered can determine whether people are able to deal with their past and move forward. Learning what factors may impact genuine forgiveness extends our understanding of conflict management in relationships and within communities.
