Abstract
The Affordable Care Act of 2010 affects communities and clinics differently depending on the number of providers, population density and prosperity of the locale. In the mountain resort area, household incomes may be too high to qualify for subsidies, yet not high enough to pay for the increased price of premiums, resulting in fewer patients accessing medical care. Survival for a small clinic in this environment is extremely difficult. The clinic leadership must make decisions whether to expand and add providers to increase the revenue base. This paper analyzes data and statistics and attempts to predict the challenges that lie in the future.
