Abstract

This Capstone project addresses contemporary ecological poetry and Holly McCann's contribution to the genre in the form of a thirty-six page chapbook of poetry. The critical portion explores five environmental poets' handling of various themes in the field of ecological poetry while differentiating poetic craft respectively. Reflection of poetic influences in the field including Mary Oliver, W. S. Merwin, Jane Hirshfield and others provides insight on the effects of his or her craft in relation to Holly McCann's creative endeavor. The chapbook, an addition to eco-conscious awareness, remains a singular entity of artistic expression; however, revision and creation of this project relative to her experience as a student finalizes the reflective section, explaining conceptual framework behind the finished product.
