Abstract
Abstract \ Shared governance (SG) and whole system shared governance (WSSG) are management models used in healthcare organizations for the process of decision making by those closest to the patient. This project provides a description of the design and implementation process of WSSG developed in an acute care facility, St. Anthony North Hospital (SAN). During the course of this process, a structure or council model was adopted and further developed. Benefits, barriers, and risks were noted. SAN is currently in stage two of the implementation process. This represents the most vulnerable stage, where chaos is felt and challenges occur. This stage must be transitioned through in order to reach stage three, a place of maturity, success, and long-term sustainability.
