Abstract
The Salvation Army of the United States of America is known for its organizational effectiveness and therefore should provide a good example of successful organizational strategies in leadership development. Through an evaluation of the current research on The Salvation Army's leadership development techniques and personal interviews with local leaders in the organization, the Project identifies (1) how The Salvation Army recognizes which individuals would make good leaders; (2) the processes and procedures used to develop internal employees into future leaders in The Salvation Army; (3) the processes and procedures used to take external individuals and mold them into effective leaders within The Salvation Army; and (4) elements of organizational structure that support effective leadership development within The Salvation Army.
