Abstract

As prospects diminish for a quick exit from the current recession, concerns about inflation and corporate profits are giving way to worries over continued high unemployment. The political pressure on the Federal Reserve to make even deeper cuts in interest rates have begun in earnest, and Congress is talking about tax cuts to stimulate the economy.
