Abstract
As Pan American World Airways and Continental Airlines slide into bankruptcy and Eastern Airlines into liquidation, the day of reckoning is fast approaching for this country's boldexperiment in airline deregulation. When President John F. Kennedy, in his 1972 Transportation Message, called for ''greater reliance on the forces of competition and less reliance on the restraints of regulation," he could not have known the revolution in transportation policy that would be coming in the succeeding two decades.
