Abstract
In the contemporary business environment, employee performance and productivity are the basis of concern in many organizations. Employers expect employees to improve their performance, and the responsibility for this objective lies with the human resources (HR) department. To determine the capability of a human resource employee, a competency matrix should be used. The competency matrix is a managerial tool that human resource managers use to assess employee skills and abilities in relation to a unique position. Employee assessments and their impacts on performance in the organization have attracted the attention of many scholars. This paper evaluates and addresses whether the use of an employee performance competency matrix is a valid reflection on human resource employee performance.
