Abstract

The expansion of high-speed Internet connections around the globe has initiated a need for a greater number of remote leaders. This Capstone Project ascertains a group of best practices for remote leadership from primary research consisting of a survey and executive interviews. Extensive secondary research was conducted as well, yielding scholarly and anecdotal articles. When taken together, both primary and secondary research yielded a set of useful methods to apply to remote leadership situations: building trust among the group; using transformational leadership techniques in communicating to employees; actively listening to remote employees and asking questions to elicit direct answers; and making frequent use of all available technologies for communication.
